Well, I'm not talking about the sparkling gem you're about to dig out from the earth, I'm talking about the more prominent gems in our lives, someone that you might have met and fall in love with and soon, everything revolves around that one person, until they begin to obsessively stalk you. These people are known as the Green Eye Monsters or in short, GEMs.
Wanting to be near your partner and be part of whatever he is doing is common, especially when yours is a young budding love. However in time, when the first flush of romance slows down and both of you begin to fall into your usual routine before you were a couple, a tugging feeling will ensue. Questions will start popping up in both your minds. "Why hasn't he call me?" "Is he seeing someone else?" "He sounds different today?"
It is common to be plague by questions like this as always, the first few months of courtship will be both exciting and enticing, but what is left after that will be sustained by Patience, endurance, commitment and love alone. As much as we girls want to feel the romance we first felt during the months of courtship throughout our lives, there's a high chance that you might not want to keep that expectations to high.
However, if you start calling him 20 times a day just to check his whereabouts and texting him every few seconds asking him what he's doing at that instance, you might be in the category of the GEMs.
Being a GEM and living with one, is two different yet the same thing. If you are on the receiving end of the GEM, you'll be miserable and scared. He would not make you feel secure as every act of yours, even going out with your girlfriends will be scrutinised. Your movement will be limited and soon you'll be devoid of social life. Vice versa, if you're the one being the GEM, you'll make your partner life miserable as well as yours. All the time you have will be used digging out info from your partner, checking through their phones and suspecting them of cheating on you. Both events lead to the same consequences. Misery.
Wait! Before you go about thinking there's no cure and you're doom, the most important thing is recognizing the signs. If you're a GEM, pace yourself. Your insecurity might be due to lack of self confidence. Maybe cause he's so handsome and you don't think you're pretty, or that you feel that you're not attractive and he's the only guy that will be that perfect and never want to let him go.
Girls, if you do realize by now, holding on tighter to a guy will only scare them away. Let them be themselves and they will come back to you. However, if your partner is a Green eye Monster then you must be patient with him. Try to explain to him gently that you need your own personal time and assure him now and then that you love him just the same. If that doesn't work and he becomes worst than before and nothing else works, it's time to break free.
